Dimapur, February 12 (MExN): Dikoi village, under Chumukedima, met on the 6th and undertook a number of resolutions pertaining to land ownership. According to a note from the Dikoi Village Council, it was decided to maintain a register to enter all ‘valid’ villagers of Dikoi, who had produced land documents before the advisor of the village within the stipulated time given i.e., November 30, 2007.
The village also decided to replace Pranei-o, GB, with a ‘capable villager’ in due course of time. The council stated that the said GB failed to cooperate with the village authorities “after destruction of Dikoi village by the Indian Army” stationed at Rangapahar. The council also informed that the said the GB printed land allotment forms and sold them to “8, 000” people although there is no sufficient land in the village. For this reason, the village has also decided to excommunicate him from the village with immediate effect. The village also decided to approach the government to issue a restraint order against the said GB from issuing land pattas to others. Further, all land documents issued by him are treated null and void, “for those who failed to produce his/her document within the time given.” The village also resolved to fight its case in the court since the village is recognized by the government. Rs. 300 is to be collected from each villager to meet legal expenses. Villagers are requested to submit the contribution in time. The next meeting of the village will be held after the elections only, the council added.
