Dimapur, April 20 (MExN): Dikoi villagers have affirmed to fight for “resettlement” within their area in respect to what was claimed as ‘intrusion’ by the ‘Rangapahar Indian Army’ and “completely destroyed the dwelling houses of the Dikoi without any procedure of law.”
Dikoi Village Council, Rangapahar, held a general meeting recently where villagers and representatives unanimously resolved to pursue the pending suit against the ‘Rangapahar army’ to return to the villagers the land. A minute of the meeting, issued by chairman Phelutso, stated that Dikoi village is a recognized Angami village and the Indian army has no authority to destroy their dwelling houses or capture the village’s land. The ‘Rangapahar Indian Army’ intruded into Dikoi village and completely destroyed the dwelling houses of the villagers “without any procedure of law” and “captured” about 77 acres of land during the time of Colonel Temsu Ao and Colonel Tinu Ao (both now demised). The meeting resolved to approach the authorities to intimate them against the occupation of the army, Rangapahar, in the village’s land “instead of protecting the public why the Indian army chased us out of our duly recognized village like their enemies.” So to retain the recognized village, the meeting resolved to approach the authority to take immediate action for restoration and redress. It was also resolved to approach the authorities to receive the house taxes for the years 2005 to 2007 as earlier.
The meeting also took note that one Praneio, Head GB of Dikoi was engaged in illegal allotment of land, and without the consent of the village council. There shall be no more land allotment in the village, it was informed.
The note mentioned that while resettlement takes place, house tax payers will be allowed to settle first, according to the size of land available. The lottery system will be followed and fill up vacant available land areas in the village, it stated. The rest of the allotted persons will be on the waiting list till the village land is “expanded.” First preference will be given to the members who attended the joint meting of Dikoi village on April 17, the council informed.
Five members from the Tenyimia community was also chosen to work with the village council and “in order to bring about a peaceful living” in the village. They are Namzeulak Zeliang, Lokho Mao, Neizahu Chakhesang, Suloni Semy and Vinyu Angami.
