Dilong Youth Association lifts MDFA Trophy

Mokokchung, October 25 (MExN): Dilong Youth Association (DYA) today defeated two times defending champion Fusion SC in an exciting final match of the MDFA Trophy 2016 through a tie-breaker.   The regular ninety minutes of the match ended in a goalless draw. The defending champion – Fusion SC – was high on hopes to lift the trophy for the third time. During the first half of the match, Fusion SC missed some golden chances when their striker crossed the defense lines and came dangerously close on scoring a couple of goals. However, they could not materialize on the chances and could not score any goal. Dilong Youths Association also presented themselves as a tough contender and also made some attempts at the Fusion goal-posts, but they too failed to score any goal.   The second half of the final match also witnessed a vigorous match between the two finalists. The packed Imkongmeren Sports Complex was filled with supporters from both the teams. The applause from both the team supporters was deafening as they made attempts at the goals. But, as fate would have it, both the teams failed to score a single goal. A fifteen minute extra-time was played. That too ended swiftly, and as the referee blew the final whistle, the match was poised to go for a tie-breaker.   Dilong Youth Association goalkeeper, who has been nicknamed as ‘Superman’ by the Dilong supporters, and who was adjudged as best-goalkeeper in MDFA Trophy 2015, was highly expected to play some magic this year too. Likewise, the DYA goalkeeper – Nungsangyanger – blocked the third goal by Fusion SC. The tempo was upped, but Fusion SC goalkeeper also blocked the fifth shot by Dilong Youth Association, making the score line to 4-4. Another shot was given to Dilong which easily found the nets. The next shot by Fusion SC went above the goalposts, thereby making the Dilong Youth Association as the ultimate champions of MDFA Trophy 2016 who won the match 5-4 through the tie breaker. The Dilong Youths were awarded a cash prize of Rs One Lakh, plus certificates and a trophy. The runner-up, Fusion SC were awarded cash prize of Rs 60,000 plus certificates.   Earlier, the ADC of Mokokchung, Bendanglila was the chief guest at the final match of the tournament.
