Dimapur, July 28 (MExN): The Dimapur Bar Association (DBA) has resolved to support a nationwide protest against the implementation of new criminal laws and has notified its members to abstain from attending court on July 29 in solidarity with Tamil Nadu lawyers who are protesting in Delhi on Monday.
In a notification, the DBA informed that a circular was received from the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) on July 22 highlighting issues related to the implementation of the new criminal laws in its present form without addressing the pertinent issues raised by the legal fraternity.
The DBA, after thorough deliberation, has expressed support for the strong objections raised by the Bar Council of India, which has been agitating against the new criminal laws since July 1, it said.
It further noted that the BCD’s circular also made a clarion call to all the Bar Associations of India for unity and fraternity in protest against the implementation of the new criminal laws in its present form and to show solidarity with the scheduled July 29 protest.
In response, the DBA in its executive resolution dated July 26, unanimously decided to support the Tamil Nadu lawyers' protest, it added.
Accordingly, a notification issued by DBA President Hukavi Zhimomi and Secretary Luzukhu L. Achumi has instructed all members to abstain from court on July 29 in support of the protest.
