Private hospitals not to take in new COVID patients

COVID-19 positivity rate in Dimapur has been reduced to 8.23% in June as compared to 26.46% in May 2021 and taking into account the improving situation, the private hospitals would now stop fresh intake of COVID patients. However, COVID designated hospitals including District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) and Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) would continue to take in new COVID patients besides attending to non-COVID cases.

This was stated by State Nodal Officer for COVID related activities in Dimapur district Y Kikheto Sema during a press conference at Hotel Saramati following a meeting with Dimapur Private Doctors’ Association on June 28.

Providing further details about the COVID scenario in Dimapur, Kikheto informed that as of June 27 only 26 COVID patients were admitted in hospitals and 347 beds excluding the reserved 110 beds at IHM, Dimapur, were vacant. Nagaland has a total of 69 COVID patients admitted in hospitals as of June 27. 

During the second wave, 1,736 patients were admitted in different hospitals with 870 at DHD, CIHSR – 518, Eden Medical Centre – 89, Faith Hospital – 144, Zion Hospital – 45, Olive Hospital – 26, Nikos Hospital – 29 and MH Hospital – 15.

The COVID Care Centre at New DC Office Complex had admitted 394 patients out of which 387 have been released and only seven are at the Centre now. COVID Care Centre at Medziphema had admitted four patients all of whom have been released now.

The total recovery number in the state till June 27 stood at 22,251 out of which Dimapur comprised on 11,071 accounting for 49.76% of the total. A total of 1,374 patients are in home isolation out of which 366 are in Dimapur accounting for 26.54% of the total home isolation in the state. Kikheto appealed the citizens not to hesitate to get themselves vaccinated.

Also addressing media persons, Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Soundararajan maintained that the COVID situation in Dimapur had “definitely improved compared to last month” and that the district has been witnessing a declining trend of positive cases.

“We need to sustain this declining trend and inch towards lesser positivity rate. We cannot lower our guard,” he added.

50% of Dimapur district population vaccinated 

Dimapur Chief Medical Officer Dr Moatemjen informed that 1,25,217 persons in Dimapur district have been vaccinated with the first dose while 1,41,577 persons have received both the doses. He said around 50% of the total population of Dimapur district have been vaccinated.

He also informed that 271 infected persons had received first dose of the vaccine out of which 21 deaths (mostly co-morbidities) were reported while 220 infected persons fell in the category of those who received both the vaccine doses but only one death was reported out of that group.

Kikheto folds up duty in Dimapur

Kikheto, who extensively performed COVID related duties in Dimapur for four months last year and was reassigned similar responsibilities since May 12 this year has folded up his assigned duties. Although, official release order for the same is yet to be issued, Kikheto informed that there was mutual agreement with the state functionaries adding that he had discussed the matter with the Chief Secretary and the need to attend to his official duty as the Agriculture Production Commissioner was recognized especially when drought-like situation was threatening the state.

He praised God for guiding him constantly and thanked the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary for reposing their faith on him. Kikheto appreciated the efforts, support and cooperation of all the frontline workers and also lauded the coordination among the administration, police, medical and all other departments. He further expressed gratitude to the civil societies, churches, NGOs and all other groups and individuals for coming forward in assisting the authorities.

Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Chief Medical Officer of Dimapur were all in unison appreciating the guidance and efforts put in by Kikheto and attested the positive changes he brought to the district. They acknowledged him for enabling seamless communication with the government and achieving many feats which the District Task Force could not have achieved.
