Dimapur crime: 22 arrests in Oct for extortion & firearms

The month of October has had as many as 16 criminal cases relating to extortion and arms registered in Dimapur.

According to data released by the Dimapur police for the month of October, a total of 22 persons, including 16 members of the various Naga Political Groups, were arrested along with 21 firearms, 211 rounds of ammunition, Rs 2,17,380 in cash and 4 vehicles.  

Overall, 71 cases has been registered under various sections of the law, inclusive of special and local laws, and 62 persons were arrested in total. Among the cases registered under the IPC, 2 were murder, 2 were kidnapping and abduction, 7 were extortion. At 28 cases, theft accounted for the most number of cases registered and burglary- 3.

There were 4 cases of cheating, 2 cases of rash driving,   2 cases of criminal breach of trust, 1 case of cruelty by husband or his relatives and others, and 2 cases broadly stated as “other IPC.”

No arrests were made in connection to the 2 murders, while 11 persons were arrested in connection to the 7 extortion cases and 5 persons were arrested for kidnapping and abduction. 

Under special and local laws, 18 cases were registered— POCSO- 1, Arms Act- 9, NLTP Act- 2, NDPS Act- and Foreigners Act- 2. As per the data, 23 persons were arrested in connection to these cases. 

Contraband seized by the police during the month included 6,899 bottles of IMFL,  500gm of heroin, 130gm of brown sugar, 19,000 tablets of ‘world is yours’ and 6,723 capsules of spasmo proxyvon. 8 persons were arrested in connection to the seizure of contrabands.
