The 7th Dimapur District Inter Club Badminton Tournament 2024 shuttled off on October 31. The 3-day doubles only tournament is organised by the Dimapur Badminton Club under the aegis of the Dimapur District Badminton Association.
According to the organisers, 156 players from 6 clubs are in the fray. The clubs in competition include the Dimapur Badminton Club, Progressive Shuttlers, Kuda Badminton Club, Elite BC, Shuttlers United and Morning Shuttlers. The players, all men, are clubbed in 7 different competitive categories: Open, 40-plus, 50-plus, 35-plus, 45-plus, 55-plus and 60-plus.
Namheu Khate, Executive Engineer, Transmission Division, Kohima, was the special guest at the inaugural programme. He noted how badminton has grown as a sport as well as a hobby in Nagaland over the years with more and more people taking to the game irrespective of age. While stating that it has been encouraging to the growing interest in the sport, he said, “Let us love badminton, let us bond and build friendship through the sports. He was also one of the competitors in the tournament.
