Dimapur: District level awareness on Nagaland Education Project

Dimapur, November 10 (MExN): A District Level Community Awareness and Sensitization Programme on Nagaland Education Project (NEP) - The Lighthouse (NECTAR) was held at DC Conference Hall, DC Office, Dimapur on November 9. The meeting was chaired by Freda Angami, ADC Samagra Shiksha.

Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Soundararajan while expressing happiness to be associated with the project, encouraged all the departments to make the best of this project to enable Nagaland to become a “performer” in North East region, a press release informed on Wednesday.

Principal Director for School Education and Project Director, NEP-The Lighthouse (NECTAR) Shanavas C highlighted on how the Project aims to channelize the system of education in Nagaland. He stressed on the criticality of right information for the successful implementation of the project. He emphasized that the project would enhance the governance of schools across state and improve teaching practices and learning environments. He underlined the challenges that are being faced by the education system in Nagaland and said that with the cooperation and participation of all stakeholders, it aims to address those prevailing issues.

Project Co-ordinator, NEP- The Lighthouse (NECTAR) Visato Koso spoke on aspects of community ownership and potential roles, interest and influence of key stakeholders, and said that one of the major issues faced in the education department in Nagaland is proxy teachers and implored those concerned not encourage the practice. Dimapur Sr SDEO Kisheli Shikhu pointed out the importance of the role of teachers in educating a child and said that honesty and transparency will pave the way for a better education system in Nagaland, the release stated.

The Lighthouse- Nagaland: Enhancing Classroom Teaching and Resources (NECTAR) Project is a World Bank aided project to enhance and improve the governance, teaching and learning environments, and overall system of the government schools in Nagaland.
