Dimapur, September 2 (MExN): Five ‘iconic projects’ under the Local Area Development Programme (LAPD) 2020-21 were approved during the monthly meeting of the Dimapur District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) on September 2. 

The DPDB for the month of September was conducted at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner Dimapur under the chairmanship of Advisor, Sericulture, Excise and Minority Affairs and Chairman DPDB Dimapur, Zhaleo Rio.

The concept of ‘iconic projects’ was introduced during the presentation of 2021-22 State Budget by the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in February this year. Each Member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly can take up an ‘iconic projects’ under LADP annually as per the specific actual needs in each constituency, he then informed.  

Accordingly, the September 2 Dimapur DPDB meeting approved one projects each in 5 assembly constituencies in Dimapur.

A DIPR report informed that the approved ‘iconic projects’ were:  
1.    Construction of Rongmei Council Customary Court at Chungaizaeng Colony, Burma camp under 1-Dimapur I A/C
2.     Construction of Link road, Signal Angami to Kevijau measuring 700 meters under 2- Dimapur II A/C
3.     Construction of Urra Area Village Union office building at Urra village under 3- Dimapur III A/C
4.    Construction of Rostrum cum open Gallery at Khaghaboto Town under 4-Ghaspani-1 A/C
5.    Construction of Indoor stadium at Medziphema Village under 5- Ghaspani -II A/C.

Meanwhile, the meeting also discussed the status of COVID 19 in Dimapur with the chair highlighting how the pandemic has had affecting the health, education and economy sectors  of the state. 

Zhaleo, however, appreciated the Dimapur District Administration, the Health and Family Welfare Department, the District Task Force for putting in the best efforts, the report said. 

Noting that in every aspect Dimapur DTF is doing remarkably well, he further impressed upon all the departments to continue to render their services so that the apprehension about the 3rd wave could also be mitigated with collective efforts, it informed. 

The Advisor also called for more focus should be given to the pandemic situation, revival of economy and outreach in the uncovered areas, it added. 

As per the report, he also lauded the high percentage (more than 80%) of vaccination coverage and further encouraged for conducting more awareness campaign to achieve 100% vaccination within the shortest possible time.

Highlighting on the status of Covid situation in Dimapur, Chief Medical Officer Dr Moatemjen Jamir informed that till September 1, the number of positive cases stood in the district stood at 337, the report said. 

Out of this, 301 were under home isolation while 16 Covid patients are at District hospital Dimapur, 19 at CISHR Dimapur and one patient at Covid Care Centre, New DCs Complex, Chümoukidima. 

He further informed that from January to August this year, a total of 72905 underwent Covid tests, out of which 7412 were found positive taking the positivity rate to 10.2%, the report added.  

Other business of the meeting included reviewing of last meeting minutes, approval  for opening and upgradation of schools, Change of nomenclature of Excel Children school to Dzuvian School; recommendation of Grant-in-Aid to Charisma School, Circuit House Colony, Dimapur; St John Higher Secondary Residential School Diphu Road, Indisen Village; and St Tetesa's Little Kingdom, Fellowship Colony Dimapur.

The Agriculture Department presented its activities with a presentation highlighting on the ongoing schemes/programmes while the Department of Fisheries was entrusted to present the departmental activities during the next DPDB meeting.

It also discussed the pre-paid metering system and issue related with paying of electric bills.
