Dimapur Excise seizes codeine, alprazolam consignment; 1 held

Dimapur, May 16 (MExN): In a crackdown on illicit drug trafficking, the Dimapur District Excise Duty Party seized a large consignment of narcotics during a routine Mobile Vehicle Checking Point (MVCP) operation at Pherima, Chümoukedima, on May 15 morning.

According to a press release, approximately 340 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup and 24,000 capsules of alprazolam tablets were recovered from a vehicle bearing registration number NL-07C-1176, intercepted around 10:40 AM. The accused was identified as Oto Shikhu (45).

Preliminary investigations revealed that the contraband was loaded at Khushaibill in Niuland and was intended for transportation to Atoizu, Zunheboto.

“The contraband was seized following due legal procedures, and a case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Further investigation is underway,” said Limatemsu Changkiri, Superintendent of Excise & Prohibition, Dimapur.

The Excise & Prohibition Department reiterated its commitment to curbing drug trafficking and safeguarding public welfare in the state.
