Introducing green space in dull concrete space
Morung Express News
Dimapur | May 29
Dimapur got a much needed aesthetic lift in the form of a ‘vertical garden.’ Placed alongside the road near the old Dhansiri Bridge and Urban Haat, the project was constructed under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change’s National Clean Air Programme and locally executed by the Team Better Dimapur in collaboration with the Dimapur Municipal Council, Nagaland Pollution Control Board, and Inner Wheel Club.
As the name would suggest, vertical gardens are grown vertically or on other vertical surfaces where space is limited. Besides adding aesthetic touch to otherwise dull concrete cityscapes, by introducing climbing plants, vertical gardens also help improve air quality.
It was inaugurated by Advisor to Labour, Employment & Skill Development, Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer, on May 29.
Longkumer termed the project as a testament to what individuals come together as a community for a common goal.
Landmarks, he said, not only represents the physical aspect of a place but also embodies the essence and character of the residents. “It will be a beacon of inspiration and a welcoming sight for visitors. It will become the iconic symbol that would define our city,” he said.
From an economic perspective, he said that landmarks hold economic importance by way of promoting tourism, while boosting local businesses. Over and above, he said that such a project signifies a community’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
According to the Team Better Dimapur, the motive behind the project was introducing a green zone and pollution free area and also providing seating area for the public. “This is just a baby step towards beautification of our city we need more places like parks, seating areas, pathways and jogging areas…”
