Dimapur, November 11 (MExN): CHILDLINE Dimapur as part of its CHILDLINE SE DOSTI campaign inaugurated the first ‘Child-Friendly Corner’ at Women Police Station Dimapur under the concept of Child-Friendly Police Station under Juvenile Justice Act and contributed First aid kit, books, play materials and decorated the Child Friendly Corner with paintings, posters and stickers.
Lozua Kape, Center Coordinator in a press release informed that Child Friendly Corner is a physical place within the space of the respective police station designed and decorated in a child friendly manner, where the child would feel safe and comfortable in a child friendly environment while interacting with the police.
Subonenba Longkumer, Nodal Director CHILDLINE sensitized the Women Police personnel on the concept of Child friendly Police Station and urged to continue their positive support towards CHILDLINE in its future endeavors.
He further shared on the concept that Child Friendly-Police should not be in uniform while dealing with child, speak in polite and soft manner-not use harsh or forceful language and shall maintain dignity and self-esteem of the child, where questions that may lead to discomfort of the child are to be asked, such questions shall be asked in tactful manner. Dolls and/or drawings can be used to communicate with the child to bring out and identify element of abuse.
He added that no accused/suspected accused shall be brought in contact with the child and a board detailing offences against children and rights of the child, displayed at a prominent place in the police station. The interaction with the child shall take place in the presence of the child’s parents or a trusted adult or para legal volunteer or representative of identified voluntary organization.
The concept also adds that an immediate need assessment of the child will be conducted in terms of the need for food, clothing, emergency medical care, counseling, psychological support and the same shall be immediately extended to the child at the police station.
Resources in the Child- Friendly Corner includes availability of drinking water; availability of first-aid kit; availability of toys or play materials; list of Child Welfare Committee; list of Child care Institutes; list of District child protection officer.
CHILDLINE Dimapur extended its gratitude to the Commissioner of Police Dimapur, DCP Zone II and Officer-in- charge Women Police Station Dimapur for their positive cooperation and support towards the implementation of the Child Friendly Corner/Child Friendly Police Station.
