Staring at the darkest festive seasons, say residents
Dimapur, November 26 (MExN): The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of 13 villages/colonies from Dhobinalla to Thahekhu under Metha sub-station today called for restoration of regular power supply before the festive season. “The immediate demand to the Power Department and Nagaland Government by JAC is for installation of 20 mega volt amperes (MVA) transformers at Metha sub-station,” the JAC stated in a press release issued by Convenor KK Yepthomi. The public will be compelled to initiate stringent steps which may disturb the day-to-day activities of the department and the State Government if the authorities turn a deaf ear, it further cautioned.
Meanwhile, the JAC informed that since the breakdown of one 20 MVA transformer in Nagarjan, the supply of electricity to six areas under Metha Colony Sub-station - Dhobinalla, ADC Court, Discipleship Bible College, Thahekhu, Town area and PWD- has been severely affected.
While the actual requirement at the sub-station is 30 MVA transformer, it is getting only 10 MVA resulting in most erratic power supply affecting all including students appearing for exams, business establishments etc, it added. The supply of power to these areas on rotational basis cannot be properly maintained due to old wires, the JAC pointed out, adding that some wires “are 35 years old” and have not been replaced since the establishment of the Sub-station. With the onset of festive season, the public are pessimistic and bleakly staring at the darkest Christmas and New Year, it noted. The JAC also wondered whether a government exists in Nagaland with crumbling infrastructure and no sign of any improvement in sight.
