The Naga People’s Front (NPF) in its manifesto for February 23 polls, has assured to carry out all measures for early realization of the Kohima-Dimapur four lane highway. Stating that better roads can change the destiny of the people for the better, the manifesto stated that NPF would also speed up road widening projects of all important state and national highways, increase the role of local entrepreneurs in construction of roads and bridges, to create public amenity centers on highways for convenience of travelers.
It also assured to increase street lighting facilities in urban areas and section of important highways, quality control in construction as a priority and also to pursue Kohima Airport for early realization.
Further, it promised to establish airstrips/landing strips in all districts including development of heliports in order to improve connectivity, especially during emergencies and natural calamities.
In the transport and communication sector, the NPF manifesto stated that it will ensure that Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) regulations are strictly enforced and implemented in the state by the telecom companies, establish capacity building mechanism for employment generation in the telecom sector, expand NST run city services at affordable rates, enhance smart vehicle monitoring mechanism through new technology to prevent thefts and related crime.
It also assured to take effective measures to streamline traffic regulatory system in the congested urban areas, enforce pollution control regulations to protect and preserve the environment and made the driving school fully functional with an extensive curriculum not just for drivers but for related sectors of the service and hospitality industry.
Touching on power and energy, the manifesto stated that the NPF would accelerate total electrification and to encourage private investment in power sector.
It also promised to take up with the Government of India for lowering power tariffs and power wheeling charges “so that power will be made affordable to all sections.”
In the oil sector, the manifesto stated, “We will involve the private sector in oil extraction and refining of oil, and will, on viable terms, allow joint ventures with foreign companies in oil exploration and extraction.”
“In the coal sector, the NPF will encourage scientific coal mining, reduce costs and raise productivity by involving the private sectors in coal mining so as to increase revenue and meet new energy needs,” the manifesto added.
On urban development, the manifesto stated that proper planning, increase in public utility services, better hygiene and sanitation and new regulations for urban dwellers will be priority areas for the NPF.
“The aim of the NPF is to make Nagaland compliment rural Nagaland in such a manner that the growth of the urban areas will directly facilitate a better economy for the rural sections,” the manifesto stated.
