Dimapur lawyers oppose shifting DC HQ

DIMAPUR, September 2 (MExN): Dimapur Bar Association (DBA) has opposed the decision to shift Dimapur district administrative headquarters to the new site at Chumukedima and termed the move as “immature” and “hasty.”

Briefing media persons, DBA President Imti Imsong on Saturday said the bar association had already submitted an “objection” to the state chief secretary regarding shifting to the new DC complex.

Imsong said once the DC complex is shifted to the new site, citizens of Dimapur will face a lot of inconveniences as the new DC complex is a bit distant from the main city. He said ordinary public will be burdened physically and economically due to the distance. The new DC complex is approximately some 14km from Dimapur city.

Among the sufferers will be students who have to spend money as well as waste time travelling to the new administrative headquarters for a simple thing as getting an affidavit, Imsong said.

The DBA president also said that there are more than 5000 cases (both civil and criminal) pending in different courts under the district sessions judge. If the DC complex along with the various courts are shifted, then the litigants too would be undergoing lots of inconveniences, he added.

While stating that the present DC complex is the ideal location for majority of Dimapur citizens, the DBA President further argued that there is plenty of space for expansion at the present DC complex itself.
