Dimapur: MGM College holds graduation ceremony

Dimapur, October 8 (MExN): Mar Gregorios Memorial (MGM) College, Dimapur conducted its first graduation ceremony for the graduate batch of 2019-22 in the college auditorium on October 8. 

A total 32 students graduated in B.A. General and Honours from the departments of English, History, Political Science, Sociology, Economics and Education, the college stated in a press release. 

The chief guest, Mohammad Ali Shihab (IAS), Secretary Department of Power, Government of Nagaland reminded the audience that education is a lifelong and transformative process. He advised the students to apply for all competitive examination without letting any opportunity pass by and also to become avid readers to become ideas leaders of society. 

In his address, Director and Manager Bishop His Grace, Dr Joseph Mar Dionysius recalled the mercy of God to start a college with limited resources and appreciated the committed team work under the leadership of the Principal and Governing Body. He addressed the graduate batch on the need to have discipline, dedication and passion towards striving for their goals. 

The topper of the batch of 2019-22, Heibale was awarded with Mar Theodosius Meritorious Trophy and Joseph Mar Dionysius Meritorious Cash Awards. The special award of Late Priyanka Ganta scholarship for second semester toppers 2022 was awarded to Amarjit Chetri. The toppers were addressed and congratulated by Rev Fr Giju George, Vice President of MGM group of Institutions. 

Earlier, the event commenced with Bible reading and invocation by Lanchunglu, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, followed by ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. 

In his welcome speech, MGM College, Principal, Rev Fr Dr PS Varghese briefed the history of MGM institutions in Nagaland. This particular college was established in the year, 2016 as the diamond jubilee birthday celebration of Diocesan Bishop, His Grace Dr Joseph Mar Dionysius. 

Special number was performed by the College Choir and vote of thanks was delivered by Washimongla, HoD, Department of Sociology.
