A dedicatory programme for the induction of the new office bearers of the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) was held at Hotel Acacia conference hall on June 1.

This comes after a high power committee (HPC) was constituted by the Naga Students Federation (NSF) to select members for the new term of 2024-26. The HPC led by Vice President, Mteisuding as convenor had been formed after internal squabbles within DNSU prevented their new members from taking office.

In his speech, the new in-coming President, Hinoto P Aomi reiterated on the need for the student body to foster unity within its rank and work towards addressing the issues of the student community. He mentioned that Naga society has been reeling under disunity for so long as a result of looking at one another through the prism of tribalism, clanism and regionalism. “This disease is preventing our Naga society from moving forward,” he said.

Keeping this in mind, it is up to the younger generation to bridge these differences and usher in effective cooperation among the tribal groups, he stated.

The new team of DNSU led by Aomi, will comprise of Michael Yanthan as vice president, Michael Kath as general secretary, Rukuwezo Wetsah, assistant general secretary, Khrieketouzo Natso as secretary finance, Tsuktilong Jamir as secretary games and sports, Kevin Gonmei, secretary education, Tesiding Newmai, speaker and WS Kahor as deputy speaker.

Speeches were also presented by NSF President Medovi Rhi, Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) President, Etsungmomo Kikon and Dimapur Deputy Commissioner, Tinojongshi Chang.

The NSF President congratulated the new in-coming while acknowledging the past deeds made by the outgoing team in their works towards the betterment of the students of Dimapur. He reminded the student body of the trust bestowed by their community to bring desired changes wherever required. Due to which, he called upon them to work with dedication and responsibility in each of their designated duties.

The NCD President mentioned that in the past the student body had been a vibrant, disciplined and apex student organisation of Dimapur. However, today there is something wrong in DNSU, he observed. The infighting among the DNSU should be stopped, he pointed out.

For which they should do away with fragmentation and work with better cooperation among its members, he said.

The DC meanwhile stressed on the need for the student body to always consult and listen to the advice of their seniors and elders when in need. To make Dimapur a better place for all of us, he said that it is up to all the stakeholders including the DNSU to contribute towards its betterment.
