Orgs demand death penalty against the accused

Spearheaded by the Lotha Eloe Ekhung Dimapur (LEED) and Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD), various tribal organizations have demanded death penalty against the accused in connection with the September 23 murder case where one Aleno Lotha was killed at New Market, Dimapur in broad daylight.  

The resolution/demand was addressed to the District & Session Judge Dimapur and appended by LEED President, Sungsalo Lotha and NWHD President, Nungshirenla Aier.  

The resolution which was further appended by leaders, representatives of various Dimapur-based tribal organizations and attendees of the protest rally held at Deluxe Point, Dimapur on Wednesday demanded that death penalty be awarded without any hesitation since the accused; Rupak Singh “intentionally pre-planned his action in clear and conscious intention.”  

In its first point resolution, the women bodies stated, “failing to impose death penalty in reference to Section-302, the administration must hand over the case to Naga customary system within one month.”  

The second point resolution stated that, “any lawyer or political pressure should not intervene the case for bail or divulge the punishment to life imprisonment without the consent of the complainant, Eloe Ekhung and Naga Women Hoho Dimapur.”  

Further, the signatories demanded immediate police security to the family and children of the deceased until they feel secured from “any norm of harassment.” They also appealed the administration to refrain social media “not to distort the case into mob attack.”  

The rally against the incident which lasted for an hour was addressed by Lotha Hoho Dimapur, President, E. Kikon; Naga Women Hoho Dimapur, Nungshirenla Aier; Western Chakhesang Hoho, President, Vekhosayi Nyekha; NWHD Secretary, Vimenuo; Dimapur Sumi Totimi Hoho, President, Hokali V. Chishi; Lotha Youth Organization Dimapur, President, Mhonchumo Ovung; Dimapur Elumyo Ekhung, Chairman Renathung Ezung and others.  

The speakers in unison condemned the murder and demanded stringent action as per the law of the land. Various Dimapur-based tribal representatives attended the protest rally.
