Officers and staff working in offices the PSU non-life insurance companies posted in Dimapur joined the nationwide strike on August 4.

Dimapur, August 4 (MExN): The Joint Forum of Trade Unions (JFTU) in the four public-sector general insurance companies called for an all India strike on August 4, protesting against the Central Government’s move to privatise one of the public sector insurers.

The four government general insurance companies are United India Insurance (UIIC), National Insurance (NIC), Oriental Insurance (OIC) and New India Assurance (NIA).

The officers and staff working in offices the four PSU non-life insurance companies posted in Dimapur also joined the strike, informed a press release issued by Rokov Zhasa, Administrative Officer, United India Insurance Company Limited, Dimapur.

The protesting employees said that recent passing of the GIBNA Amendment Bill 2021 at the Lok Sabha, would “lead to selling off the companies to private players, weaken the companies and adversely impact the employment/social security of the employees both serving and retired.”

“The strike saw strong participation, leading to complete shutdown of all insurance services nationwide and in the State for the day,” Zhasa stated.
