CrPc still in place: Dawn to dusk curfew clamped in vulnerable areas
DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 3 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner, in partial modification to the order issued under section 144 of the CrPc on September 1, has promulgated another order restricting assembly of five or more people in certain locations deemed susceptible to disorderly behaviour in Dimapur. The dawn to dusk restriction on congregation of people took effect from Monday evening. It will take effect from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am till further notification.
The areas which will come under the purview of the latest order from the DC are Golaghat Road, GS Road, Circular Road, and NH 29 upto Chumukedima. The DC in the order stated “no one will convene, join or constitute an assembly of 5 (five) or more than 5 (five) persons” in the aforementioned locations “from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM till further orders.” Magistrates, police and other security forces are exempted from the purview of the order.
The latest notification comes in the backdrop of an incident at Circular Road on Monday morning. A group of unidentified youths had intimidated business establishments near the Clock Tower intersection, while trying to prevent businesses from opening. Incidents of clashes between groups of youths were reported in the outskirts of the town on Sunday night. The reports though are unconfirmed.
The youths, according to the police, came in a Maruti Car, jeep and a motor-cycle. They threatened shop-keepers opening shutters for the day’s business with dire consequences if they opened shop. They had also tried to enforce the same at Eros Lane but was unsuccessful, police said.
Police, on receiving information, reacted swiftly, going on a manhunt but the unidentified youths could not be traced. Following the incident, police personnel in full riot gear were seen manning Circular Road for a major duration of the day. Taking no chances, vehicles, seen plying with tinted glass, were also stopped and the sun films removed.
