DIMAPUR, MAY 30 (MExN): The Sand Stockists & Supplies Union Dimapur (SSSUD) today said that it would stop paying tax to the Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change; and the Geology & Mining Department as of June 1 till the government takes a final decision as to which department will be allowed to collect tax on sand laden vehicles.
A press note from the union stated that it is not in position to give tax to two departments on the same item. “The Geology & Mining Department is issuing money receipt and the Forest Department is issuing token in small piece of paper in both New Field and Delai Check gate,” the SSUD informed.
The union requested the Nagaland government to clarify at the earliest as to which department is authorised to collect the said tax on sand laden vehicles. The SSUD cautioned that “if any untoward incident happens during the opposing time then the concerned Environment, Forest & Climate Change (EF&CC) and Geology & Mining (G&M) departments will be held responsible for the whole incident.”
It further asked all suppliers, vehicle owners and drivers of sand laden vehicles to follow the meeting resolution and not to pay tax from June 1 onwards. “If any vehicles are found paying tax then the defaulter’s vehicles will not allowed to unload the sand at the stockiest,” the union warned. It further requested all union members to reach the New Field and Delai Gate at 4:30am on June 1.
