DIMAPUR, JUNE 13 (MExN): Dimapur Superintendent of Police Bidhu Shekhar today issued an order in a bid to control pollution in the city. From July 1, intensive checking of ‘Pollution under Control’ certificates will be carried out, allowing ample time for vehicle owners to obtain the certificates. In order to prevent and reduce air pollution from the motor vehicles, the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989 has made it mandatory for all type of motor vehicles to comply with the vehicle emissions norms as per section 115 (1) (2) and (7).
The SP stated in the order: “Every motor vehicle other than motorcycles of engine capacity not exceeding 70 cc, manufactured prior to the first day of March, 1990, shall be maintained in such condition and shall be so driven so as to comply with the standards prescribed in these rules.
All the vehicles manufactured after the commencement of this act complied with the provision of emission norms.”
However, after the expiry of a period of one year from the date on which the motor vehicle was first registered, every such vehicle is instructed to carry a valid “Pollution under control” certificate issued by an agency authorized for this purpose by the state Government. It has been made mandatory for all vehicles to carry pollution under control certificate in the vehicle and produce the same on demand by the competent authority. Violation of these rules is punishable under section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
