Dimapur’s first motor racing event draws enthusiastic response

Dimapur | September 25 : Usually free from the hustle and bustle of town, the State Stadium resonated with the growling sounds of super charged engines for two days, as  drivers put to test their skills and the power of their beloved vehicles, racing against time in a makeshift track of dust and gravel.
It was an assemblage of man (and woman) alongside machine (pitted against time), of rubber against gravel. Roaring engines and adrenaline flowing, it was the ‘1st JK Tyre – DMSC Autocross Meet’. The first motor racing event held in Dimapur. Started Saturday, it came to a thunderous close Sunday, September 25 amidst enthusiastic crowd response.
Organised by Dimapur Motor Sports Club, the competition attracted forty-seven drivers and as many vehicles, competing in three categories – Below 1000cc, Above 1000cc and SUV. There was 17 competitors in the Below 1000cc category, 15 in Above 1000cc and 15 in SUV. The rules were based on the guidelines of the FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India). For the qualifying round on the first day, each vehicle was put to two motos (runs), consisting to three laps each. The drivers who clocked the best time, made it to the finals on Sunday. The racetrack was 1.5 kilometres long.
 
Nagaland Adventure Club makes impressive wins
 
Dimapur | September 25 : The Nagaland Adventure Club (NAC) has done it yet again by grabbing almost every coveted title during the just concluded, ‘1st JK Tyres Autocross held in Dimapur  organized by Dimapur Motor Sports Club (DMSC). The NAC took to its credit the following titles: 1000cc below Champion (Anguzo Sekhose), SUV/Gypsy category Champion- Lima Jamir, 1st Runner up- Peter Rutsa, 2nd Runner up- Anguzo Sekhhose. In the Jeep Class Champion- Sobou Miachieo, 1st Runner up- Kevi Chadi, 2nd Runner up- Kevin Puro.
It may be mentioned that the NAC can be considered as a pioneer of ‘adventure sports’ in the state. They not only promote it through active participation of the members in such sports but they also carry out charitable activities as part of its duty.  Past achievements of the NAC include a very publicized and successful Horse Power Challenge held this year. The NAC was also declared the ‘Best Institution’ during the Hornbill International Rally 2010 where the President Paul Rutsa himself won the Champions title in Time Distance Speed (TSD) category. They won prestigious titles in both cars and bikes category the same year. The NAC also won the 1st runners up title in the Indo Bhutan rally held this year in March.

Above 1000cc
1st – Dieku Lasuh (2:08.25 minutes)
2nd – Nitoka Chophi (2:12.71 minutes)
3rd – Sadong Aier (2:14.16 minutes)

SUV
1st – I. Lima Jamir (2:11.16 minutes)
2nd – Peter Rutsa (2:12.03 minutes)
3rd – Anguzo Sekhose (2:14.72 minutes)

Timmy Jamir clocked the best time overall at 2:04.34 minutes during the qualifying round. Unfortunately, he had to opt out of the competition owing to a mechanical failure. By virtue of being the lone woman participant, Kichan Shohe was declared the ‘best female participant’.
