Discourage culture of ‘easy money and living’: Torechu

KIPHIRE, JUNE 8 (MExN): Parliamentary Secretary for Excise, Economics & Statistics and Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, T Torechu, has called upon officers of various departments to discourage the culture of “easy money and living.”

Addressing the monthly District Planning & Development Board meeting at the DC conference hall, Kiphire, the Parliamentary Secretary said that it is the responsibility of government officers to dissuade the villagers from the culture of “easy money and living” if they want real development in the district.

Torechu stated that for the past many decades, contractors and villagers of the district were in the habit of running only after bills and easy money. He added that they were not concerned about executing works, whenever awarded with any scheme of development works.
That is why Kiphire district continues to remain backward in many fronts including infrastructure, education, agri and allied activities, he said.

Calling upon the officers to be “agents of change”, Torechu urged officers of various departments to cooperate and co-ordinate with one another and evolve strategies on how to remove the backward tag of the district.

To effectively implement government policies and programmes, the Parliamentary Secretary also said that officers should be regular in their duties and place of posting. Torechu also said that while taking up developmental schemes and projects, the officials concerned should regularly visit and inspect the sites and projects so that developmental works are as per the guidelines and specifications.

Stressing on education as the backbone of development, he further called upon frontal organizations and tribal hohos of the district to focus on promotion of education. On the other hand, Torechu also said that the district has witnessed maximum development in the past 10 years under the DAN government. He assured that road connectivity to the remaining two villages under Pungro sub-division, which have not been connected by road, would be taken up on priority basis.

DC Kiphire, Kesonyu Yhome, presented the agenda of the meeting including review of minutes of the last DPDB meeting. Among the agendas deliberated in the meeting included BRGF annual action plan 2013-2014, creation of public distribution centre (PDC) at Kiusam, acquisition of site for KMC office and posting of Superintendent of Taxes at Kiphire district headquarter.
