Longleng, October 11 (DIPR): International Day for Girl Child was observed in Longleng district at Local Football ground on October 11 under the theme: ‘Daughters of New India.’ The programme was organized by the District Task Force (DTF, BBBBP).
Deputy Commissioner & Chairman DTF, BBBBP Longleng, Y. Denngan Avennoho Phom in his keynote address asserted that man and woman are creation of God and both are equal before the Creator and no one should discriminate girl child or deprive her rights in the civilized Christian world. Pointing out that family is the first institution of learning he appealed to all the parents to treat their children of both gender equally.
He cautioned that the district administration will not tolerate discrimination against women in the district and assured that all schemes for development of women and child will be utilized judiciously. He also said that girls are doing much better in academic and are also excellent in other fields, and these indicates the importance of women to actively participate in all social activities along with men.
Principal, BHSS Longleng, Henow spoke on the topic ‘Daughters of New India’. She appealed to all girl students to raise their voice for their rights and not to suffer silently feeling rejected and ignored by the society. She said that the time has come for the women to break the chain that confines women within the four corners of the kitchen. She asserted that women too have the potentiality to change the society provided they are secure and give justice and freedom to them. She urged the womenfolk to understand that the day is observed to deliver justice and freedom to women. She asked the girls to know their rights and disseminate the information to their sisters to transform the society through women’s participation.
The Deputy Commissioner, Principal BHSS, CDPO Longleng, DPRO Longleng and CDPO Tamlu were declared as the Ambassadors for Girl Child. The Ambassadors have adopted one orphan girl child each from the Phom Lempong School. The Ambassador for the girl child revolves around underprivileged girls who are unable to avail quality education. They will contribute towards their education and give the girl child a chance to live a better life in the society.
Earlier, Invocation was done by Tanlei Associate Pastor LTBC, Special presentation by Phom Lempong School and the program culminated with benediction by Nyemla Associate Pastor Women, LTBC. Around thousand students from all the schools under Longleng attained the program. CDPO Longleng, Tauhong chaired the programme.
