Kohima, September 22 (MExN): A district level workshop on building capacities for taking forward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was held at District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) Conference Hall, Kohima on September 22. It was organised by SDG Coordination Centre and Department of Planning and Coordination, Nagaland.

The main objectives of the workshop are to sensitise all the district level officials for taking forward SDGs and develop understanding of the SDGs, a DIPR report informed.

Delivering the keynote address, Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie stated that SDGs were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

The SDGs are a collection of 17 global goals and associated 169 targets designed to be a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all, he said, adding that the aim is to ’leave no one behind’ and to ‘reach the furthest behind first.’

District Planning Officer, Pudusul Luho said that Nagaland State is also engaged in the process of SDG integration and localisation since 2018 with its Sustainable Development Goals Coordination Centre (SDGCC) under the Planning & Coordination Department.

Further he also added that though SDGs is a new policy to most of the departments, he also encouraged coordination to understand the main concept of SDG and identify the challenges and its solutions and put our society SDG in harmony.

During the workshop, SDG consultant from all the departments on localisation and integration of SDGs and preparedness of Nagaland was highlighted. Participants from all the 28 Departments and the SDG Consultants from the SDGCC attended the workshop, the report added.
