Dimapur, July 21 (MExN): The Tuensang District legal Services Authority (TDLSA) organized one-day training programme with the newly recruited Dobashis (DBs) under Tuensang District on July 19 at the DC’s Conference Hall Tuensang. 43 DBs along with the head DB attended the programme.
N. Kano, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Tuensang and Secretary TDLSA highlighted the activities taken up by the Tuensang District legal Services Authority and 24 legal aid clinics established in the entire district.
Jamithung Lotha, Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang, in his short speech urged the DBs to follow fair and natural justice delivery system.
Mayang Lima, Principal District & Sessions’ Judge and Chairman TDLSA, Tuensang who was the resource person spoke on the Rules for Administration of Justice and Police Act.
Highlighting the powers, functions and procedures to be followed by the DB’s court during the conduct of the cases, he said that the Rules for Administration of Justice and Police Act, clearly specify that heinous crimes like rape, murder, kidnapping etc. should be given to the regular court so that justice is delivered according to provisions of law.
He also highlighted the hierarchy of the Legal Services Authority from Supreme Court, High Court and District Court to taluk level and how one can avail the benefits of legal services free of cost.
The Zunheboto Legal Services Authority (ZDLSA) also conducted legal awareness programme on Child Friendly Legal Services Scheme (NALSA Scheme 2015) cum Essay competition on Fundamental rights and duties at Government Higher Secondary School, Zunheboto on July 21.
An introduction of child friendly legal services scheme (NALSA Scheme 2015) was given by Easter H. Yepthomi, Panel lawyer ZDLSA. She dwelled on the categories of child rights and constitutional provisions.
Khetoholi J. Yeputhomi, Legal cum Probation Officer DCPU Zunheboto, spoke on Juvenile Justice Act, POCSO Act and Prohibition of child labour. She apprised on the procedures for reporting crimes against juvenile and the remedial measures available for juvenile.
She also highlighted on the initiatives taken by the Child Welfare Committee Zunheboto for rehabilitation of juveniles in conflict with law and protection of juvenile in need of care and protection. Altogether, 15 students participated in the essay competition, where Ily Awomi, Hito N Yeptho and Mughalika were adjudged first, second and third respectively.
The programme was attended by class 11 and 12 students and teaching faculty of GHSS Zunheboto. Legal literary booklets were also distributed to the participants. In Peren, the Peren District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) organized a workshop of Dobashis (DBs) and Gaon Buras (GBs) at Town Hall, Jalukie on July 21.
Somet Chang, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Secretary PDLSA, delivered the keynote address and introduction. Limasenla Longkumer, Master Trainer, spoke on welfare scheme and NALSA schemes, 2015, while Esther Aye, Master Trainer, spoke on Nagaland Village Council Act and Rules for Administration of Justice of Police in Nagaland.
On the same day, a programme on Child Friendly Legal Services was held at St. Xavier College Conference Hall, Jalukie Town. Limasenla Longkumer spoke on Child Friendly Legal Services to Children and their Protection Scheme 2015, while Esther Aye spoke on Juvenile Justice Act and The Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) 2012.
