
Dimapur, October 30 (MExN): A one-day workshop on mediation techniques with the officials of customary courts was held on October 29 by Dimapur and Kohima District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) respectively.
In Dimapur, the workshop was held at DDLSA front office. It was chaired by Sentimenla, Panel lawyer, DDLSA while keynote address was delivered by Y Longkumer, Principal District & Sessions Judge & Chairperson DDLSA.
In the first session, Limasenla Longkumer, State Panel lawyer spoke on the topics – Concept of mediation, Role of Mediator and difference between mediation and Judicial process/Arbitration/Lok Adalat/Conciliation/Panchayat.
A press release from Public Relations Assistant, NSLSA stated that Limhathung Ezong, State panel lawyer was the resource in the second session. He spoke on the topics – Stages of Mediation process and benefits of Mediation. There was also an interaction session. The workshop was attended by 12 members of the Customary Court.
Kohima DLSA conducted the one-day workshop at Phenshunyu village panchayat. The programme was chaired by Mhayani Kikon, Panel lawyer, Kohima DLSA. Short speech was given by Chairman, Village Council Phenshunyu village; Chairman of Khenyu village; Chairman of Phentejon Bamboo Model village.
Phuleto Yeptho Secretary Kohima DLSA gave the keynote address, where he highlighted about the functions and importance of legal services, the role of panel lawyer, PLV and further gave basic introduction of mediation.
A topic presentation on legal aid and its services was presented by Mika H Aye, Panel lawyer, KDLSA. She stressed on Legal Services Authority and its constitution, the availability of legal service, to whom it can be provided. She also highlighted about the importance of Lok Adalat.
A topic presentation on mediation techniques as an Alternate Dispute Redressal was presented by Veswupoi Theyo, Advocate Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench.
He highlighted about the birth and existence of mediation, giving a reflection to Naga social practice in the past in solving conflict. He stressed on the introductory setting of mediation on how problems of people can be alive between two parties. Theyo also highlighted about the birth of Naga statehood and the implimentation of Article 371 (A).
An interaction was held between the GBs, DBs and the resource persons. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Johnny Rengma , Advocate Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench.
