DLST condemns assault on local customer

DIMAPUR, JUNE 28 (MExN): The Dimapur Langpangkong Senso Telongjem (DLST) has expressed deep anguish and strongly condemned the alleged assault of a local customer by a vegetable trader identified at Murgipatti in Dimapur on June 26.

In a press release issued on Saturday, the DLST termed the incident as “an insulting act” and said that, regardless of the reason, the physical assault of an indigenous citizen by a non-local trader was a direct insult and threat to the people of Nagaland.

“This is a very disturbing development concerning the security and existence of indigenous people of the state,” the statement said.

While the matter may have been amicably resolved between the parties concerned, the Telongjem maintained that the incident left the community feeling humiliated and insecure in their own land.

“The very threat unleashed upon an innocent local person by an outsider, who earns his livelihood in Nagaland, deeply disturbs our peace of mind. It will take time to overcome the physical and mental distress caused by such incidents,” the statement read.

The Telongjem further said that such undesirable elements, who it claimed “control our economy and treat us as third-class citizens,” must not be allowed to disrupt the social fabric of Naga society.
