DMC appeals for better hygiene sense

DIMAPUR DEC 5 (MExN): The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) expressing serious concern over the unabated erection of buildings, structures etc over main drainage/sewerage systems in Dimapur has asked all concerned to refrain from doing so as to avoid water and waste overflowing/blockage, congestion and diseases.

Stating that one of the biggest challenges faced by the DMC and the public was in maintaining proper drainage/sewerage systems to ensure a clean and healthy environment, Y Vikheho Awomi DMC Chairman in a release reminded that construction of various structures over drainage systems, had led to stagnation of sewage wastes providing an ideal breeding ground for various types of disease-causing germs as well as inconveniencing the people.

Building owners also have been directed not to leave building materials dumped on the roadside for more than one night as it not only occupies more space but also dirtied the town besides causing traffic congestion.

The DMC would seize any such materials which are left on the roadside for more than the stipulated period, it cautioned. Also, Garage owners were also informed to perform their work within the garage premises and not on the roadsides.

Defaulters would be liable for penalization. It also appealed to the authorities concerned to thoroughly review land pattas which extend to main sewerages of the town.

“The master-plan of Dimapur is such that it is virtually impossible to divert the route of the sewerage system” the release stated adding that with the onset of the festive season, traffic congestion as well as overcrowded market were now a common sight.

The DMC asked vehicle owners to maintain discipline and civic sense while parking their vehicles in such a manner that it should not cause traffic jams.
