With participation from Dimapur based Naga civil societies, the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) on Sunday organized advance Christmas at Clock Tower junction.

In his keynote address, DMC Administrator, Moa Sangtam highlighted about a solar project which it intends to starts on a 50-50/Colony-DMC basis. He said Riverbelt Colony would be the first to install solar street lights before Christmas. He also informed that the DMC in collaboration with Living for Environment and Nagaland Pollution Control Board would be using non-biodegradable plastic mixed with bitumen for construction of roads.

Further, Moa said that the Municipal envisages to convert household and kitchen waste into manure and the first colony to derive benefit out of the project would be the cleanest colony.

He expressed optimism that the entire Municipal area could become a dustbin free zone by next year-end if the colonies actively cooperate in DMC’s door-to-door waste collection effort.

Highlighting about the activities of DMC for the past six months, the Administrator thanked the public for their overwhelming support especially towards the ‘A Better Dimapur’ project. “Your overwhelming support has reaffirmed our faith that together we can transform Dimapur into a better place,” he said drawing reference to the March 5, 2015 lynching incident at the same place and the “beautiful spot” it has become today.

He expressed gratitude to the entire team of A Better Dimapur project, Chief Medical Officer Dimapur and the civil societies for their cooperation.

Moa said that the next phase of Cleanest Colony competition would start by January 2018.   During the programme, Pastor, Visasier Kevichusa, Kingdom Culture Church delivered the sermon.
