IN AN expected development, a total of 12 Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) Councilors today submitted a signed petition to the District Commissioner of Dimapur, requesting a No-Confidence Motion be passed against the DMC Chairperson H. Tovihoto Ayemi and Deputy Chairperson DP Angami for their failure to lead the DMC. The petition to the DC also categorically stated they would support and give cooperation to Y. Vikheho Awomi to lead the DMC as Chairperson “to safeguard the larger interest of the people”. The DC, K.N. Ngullie confirmed the receipt of the no confidence motion at around 6 pm at his official residence. It was reported that the administration will look into the petition and ascertain the numbers.
The petition to the DC was signed by 12 DMC members, which included Y. Vikheho Awomi, Khekaho, Lipok, Thungchangthung, Simon, Atomu, Pukhavi, Hukheto, Hezheto, Nungsang Jamir, Temjensoba and Neingkhoun Gonmei.
It may be mentioned that on February 25, 2006 a total of 13 DMC members led by K. Khekaho Assumi and H. Tovihoto Ayemi had in a similar fashion submitted a signed petition to the District Commissioner, requesting a No – Confidence motion be passed against the then DMC Chairperson, Y. Vikheho Awomi. The charge then was that Vikheho was functioning ‘autocratically’ and taking important decision without consulting other members. Subsequently, Tovihoto was elected Chairperson. His name had been proposed by K Khekiho Assumi of ward 2 and seconded by I Nungsang Jamir of Ward 10. Interestingly, Khekiho and Nungsang are now supporting the removal of the incumbent Chairperson. This has added a new twist to the political cat and mouse game within the DMC.
