DMC intervenes to save Dimapur’s suffocated streets

Dimapur, April 16 (MExN): Carelessly-parked vehicles, parking in restricted zones and piling of building materials along public roadways have more than become a nuisance and hazard to the public. Taking strong cognizance of these disorders, the Dimapur Municipal Council today issued a circular stipulating certain points for vehicles owners, motor workshops, business establishments and footpath vendors to follow. Violation of the directives, to be strictly adhered to, would invite appropriate penalization, a circular issue by DMC chief H Tovihoto Ayemi.

All off-loaded, abandoned vehicles kept alongside either motor workshops or by owners should be removed immediately; no buses or any heavy vehicles shall be kept parked on road-sides other than in designated areas/parking zones. Parking of heavy vehicles/trucks for loading and unloading purposes on roadsides on any street is restricted, from 7:30 am to 4:00pm, the DMC circular ordered. Also building owners or residents are prohibited from keeping any building materials on road sides for more than 24 hours. Light vehicle owners are also prohibited from parking their vehicles on wrong side of roads or no-parking zones in any way.

Further all footpath vendors are directed to shift their business to DMC daily market at Naga Shopping Arcade (supermarket). Temporary sheds erected for running ‘footpath businesses’ and motor workshops are also ordered to be removed immediately.
Violation of these instructions would invite appropriate action from the DMC against defaulters, with fine under Section 471 and sub-Section (A) of Nagaland Municipal Act, 2001, the DMC warned. The order comes into force with immediate effect.
