Dimapur, September 20 (MExN): The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has announced that it will carry out mandatory inspections of fire extinguishers across all shops, business establishments, and commercial entities operating within its jurisdiction as part of safety compliance measures.
In a press release, the DMC stated that “mandatory checking of fire extinguishers will be conducted by the DMC enforcement team as part of safety compliance measures.” The Council noted that “several shops and business establishments are operating without proper fire safety equipment.”
It said that in the interest of public safety and in compliance with relevant provisions under the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, all establishments “are hereby directed to ensure that functional fire extinguishers are installed and maintained in their premises at all times.”
The DMC further warned that “any shop or business found without a functional fire extinguisher during the inspection shall be penalised as per the rules of the Dimapur Municipal Council.”
“All shopkeepers and business establishments are therefore directed to take necessary measures immediately to avoid penalties and to safeguard public safety,” it added.
