Dimapur, June 23 (MExN): The Naga Council of Dimapur today came out virtually charging the Chief Executive Officer of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) of using “her own free will” to issue allotment orders to about 140 persons for a space meant only for about 70 persons. The council has taken strong note that a huge amount of Rs. 2, 30, 000 (two lakh and thirty-thousand) was charged per stall.
The Naga Council issued a statement today expressing necessity to take stance on the ongoing controversy concerning allotting business spaces in DMC buildings.
“Firstly, it must be noted that there was a Gentleman’s Agreement (verbal) that old allottees numbering around 70-odd occupants would be allotted rooms of the same size,” the Council said in the statement appended by vice president Vikalo Zhimomi and joint secretary LL Buming”. However, the Naga Council stated, after the demolition of the old structure and the dissolution of the DMC advisory committee on the 4th of April 2012, the CEO at “her one free will” gave allotment orders to around 140 persons.
“Now is it possible that in the plot of land measuring the same size where only 70 stalls could be accommodated so many allotments can be given and justice to the old occupants can be done?” the council asked. The organization then quoted reliable source that an exorbitant Rs. 2, 30, 000 was being charged per stall. “If you calculate the per square feet rate though the sizes of the stalls are yet unknown then it is nothing short of daylight robbery for a place like Dimapur,” the council remarked.
The Naga Council also stated that “it has been a long standing dream of our citizens to have a decent parking zone within the town”. “Again, in total disregard to the sentiment of the people, the floor (second) meant for parking was randomly allotted to individuals cancelling the same for which it was earmarked; unfortunately, this decision as also taken after the dissolution of the advisory board of the DMC.”
Another issue the council raised was that of allotment fees in a DMC property in Hazi Park. Rooms measuring 6x5 are being allotted to “old occupants” for 2, 20, 000 per room which calculates at Rs. 7, 000 per square feet. “It is unfortunate that individuals with vested interests are running the show in our town least bothered about what holds for our future generations. It is none other than one of the members of the dissolved DMC advisory board who is the contractor,” the council said.
Wondering why the Nagaland government is keeping silent, the council said the ‘errants’ should be curbed and shown their rightful place and let Dimapur citizens to live in peace, the council added.
