DMHP Kohima organize capacity building on adolescents and youth

KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 10 (MExN): District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) Kohima organized a mental health awareness programme on the theme, “Adolescents and Youth” at Urban Primary Health Centre, Porterlane, Kohima on November 10.

According to a press release, common mental health Issues, pathways to care, promotive and preventive measures to tackle common mental health issues were discussed during the session. 
Resource person, Veronica Nriame, Psychiatric Social Worker, DMHP, Kohima, highlighted to the participants on the subject mental health and common mental health issues prevalent among the adolescents and youth.

She added that anxiety, depression, gaming, suicidal risks and usage of alcohol and substances are common mental health issues prevalent amongst the mentioned population. She discussed about suicide awareness and how health workers can assist those individuals who are vulnerable and prevent the cases of suicides, as suicides are preventable.

She urged the participants to be an ambassador in promoting and protecting mental well being of self and others. She opined that it is essential for the health workers to do the referral services when required.  

In the follow-up session, Kethozenuo Mere, Psychiatric Nurse, DMHP, Kohima talked on the effective measures to promote mental health. She apprised the participants that it is significant to regulate our emotions; channelized in a healthy way and process range of emotions.

In addition, she stated how core life skills are essential particularly for the adolescents. She concluded the session by highlighting the ongoing projects- Tele MANAS, Project Rest and Reducing Drug Use among Children and Adolescents Project.

The session was attended by Dr Aomeren, Medical Officer, nurses  & ASHA workers. There were around twenty participants.
