
Dimapur, May 5 (MExN): Reacting to news items in the local media about a vehicle belonging to the Fourth Estate being fired upon by unidentified miscreants on April 28, the Dimapur Superintendent of Police today clarified that the vehicle was not fired upon. The damage-mark on the vehicle was caused by stones or other objects. A bullet would have pierced through the door, the SP informed.
In a rejoinder, the Dimapur SP informed that a thorough police inquiry into the incident has revealed that the vehicle in question (a Maruti Alto) “was not fired at by any gun”. The driver of the vehicle, Mahesh Alam, on being examined by the police, stated that on April 28 at around 3 am, when he was proceeding to Kohima to drop newspapers, three unidentified person attempted to stop the vehicle at Faith Petrol Pump (5th Mile). However he sped away without stopping. In the course of time he heard the sound of the vehicle being hit by a stone or some other object from the miscreants, the SP informed. This statement of the driver has also been confirmed by witnesses who were present at the time of the incident “who stated in the course of interrogation that they did not hear any sound of gun shot at 5th Mile on that particular morning, the Dimapur police chief said.
In this regard, the Dimapur SP asserted the news item about a press vehicle being “fired upon”, that appeared in the local media, is “not true”. He further added that on examination of the “damaged marks” on the vehicle, “it is found that the vehicle was hit by stones or other object but not by bullet as it would have pierced through the door had it been hit by a bullet.
