Dimapur, June 5 (MExN): Intensifying malaria prevention and control measures during Anti-Malaria Month, strengthening surveillance systems, and improving field-level implementation were the key issues discussed at the monthly district review meeting under the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) held at the Chief Medical Officer's Conference Hall, Dimapur, on June 5.

The meeting was chaired by Dr Ayangla Saku, District Programme Officer, CD-I, and reviewed the district's performance under the programme while focusing on strategies to enhance malaria control efforts across the district.

According to a press release, participants discussed the need to strengthen community awareness and mobilization activities, maintain timely disease surveillance and reporting, ensure uninterrupted availability of essential commodities, improve coordination between supervisory and field staff, and uphold quality standards in laboratory services.

As June is being observed as Anti-Malaria Month, special emphasis was placed on expanding community outreach and awareness campaigns to encourage preventive measures and early reporting of malaria cases.

During the meeting, UVBDS Dimapur's Kikolul Khieya sensitized staff on the proper preparation of insecticides for focal spraying. He explained that insecticides should first be made into a paste before being mixed with water to ensure that the active ingredient dissolves completely and remains effective during spraying operations.

DVBDC Dimapur's Heanglih T Konyak presented a review of surveillance workers' performance and shared a comparative analysis of malaria cases recorded during the current year and the previous year. She also highlighted the roles and responsibilities of Surveillance Inspectors, Malaria Inspectors, Surveillance Workers and Multi-Tasking Staff in implementing programme activities and achieving programme targets.

The meeting was attended by Dr Imnapokim, Joint Director and State Programme Officer, NVBDCP Nagaland, along with Dr Kavito Zhimomi, Deputy Director, and Imsubenla, Public Health and Training Consultant. The state officials provided technical guidance and programme support to the district team and reviewed ongoing implementation efforts.

The meeting concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to strengthening malaria control measures during Anti-Malaria Month and implementing the technical recommendations discussed to advance malaria elimination efforts at the grassroots level.
