Dimapur, May 11 (MExN): In a bid to enhance grassroots forest governance and promote peer-to-peer learning, the Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP), supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), successfully organized a two-day exposure trip for Joint Forest Management Committees (JFMCs) and Self Help Groups (SHGs) from the DMU Peren division to DMU Dimapur.

The first batch of participants from Mpai Namci, Old Nkio, and Nchangram villages visited Hekhese, Thekrejuma, and Piphema Old villages on April 24 and 25. The second batch from Old Nzau, Peren Village, Peletkie Village, and Tening Village undertook their exposure visit to Pherima A and Piphema Old on May 8 and 9.

The objective of the initiative was to foster inter-divisional collaboration and provide a platform for mutual learning on community-led forest conservation and income generation activities (IGAs) promoted under NFMP-JICA.

Interactive sessions enabled members of both divisions to exchange insights on organizational functioning, forest protection, livelihood models, participatory planning, and financial record-keeping. Participants also toured Entry Point Activity (EPA) sites and various forest treatment models, gaining practical exposure to sustainable forest management techniques.

Officials from both DMU Peren and DMU Dimapur coordinated the programme, ensuring smooth facilitation of discussions and field visits. The event concluded with a feedback session where participants highlighted the importance of continued knowledge-sharing initiatives to strengthen forest stewardship and community resilience.
