DNSU Conference conveys concern for Tribalism

DIMAPUR, APRIL 25 (MExN): The Inaugural Function of the 16th General Conference of the Dimapur Naga Students Union which was held today at Town Hall, Dimapur on the Theme “Consolidation of Values” was attended by substantial representation of its 18 constituent units. The Chief Guest of the inaugural function Atomi Zhimomi, member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly called on the students to do away with tribalism and think outside the “Box” to fight together for common progress and prosperity. Apologizing on his own behalf and on behalf of the Sumi community for the recent episode at Wungram, the young MLA said that as a Christian state, Nagas should believe in patience and reconciliation rather than violence and learn to co-exist wisely rather than parish as fools.

The President of the  Naga Students Federation, Phushika Aomi, in his Solidarity Message said that the Nagas should learn to live beyond tribal horizon. Expressing concern over the unfortunate presences of Tribalism among the Nagas, Phushika said that the elders had been given enough time and if tribal differences were the advice given by the elders than the students had to play their part and say “no”.

In his Presidential Address, DNSU President, Obed Yimchunger highlighted the activities of the DNSU in the last two years and called upon the student community to strive to erase the curse of Tribalism from the society, utilizing the students’ platform to promote harmony.

Earlier in the program which was chaired by Susan Waten, The Conference Choir sang the Welcome song, a folk song was presented by Chakhesang Students’ Union Dimapur and the DNSU Souvenir was released by the Chief Guest.
