Dimapur, December 8 (MExN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) expressed dissatisfaction and alarm over what it termed as the “continued silence” of the State Government regarding the alleged procurement of a Non-Naga Indigenous Inhabitant of Nagaland Certificate “illegally” by Dimapur businessman Nirmal Kumar Jain.
As per the DNSU, after procuring the certificate, the businessman “acquired land through fraudulent means” and demanded its immediate cancellation.
The union noted that following its representation, an Internal Committee constituted by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur examined the matter in detail and “confirmed aggravated fraud, deception, conspiracy and deliberate intent to defraud the Government.”
Based on this finding, the Commissioner of Nagaland issued a show-cause notice to Jain on November 14, 2023 directing him to submit a written clarification within 15 days from the date of receipt of the notice, failing which necessary action would be taken, it stated.
However, the DNSU highlighted that no follow-up action and no official response have been communicated, either to the union or to the public, despite the expiry of the 15-day deadline.
“This deliberate delay reflects poorly on the resolve of the Government to protect the rights and identity of the indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland,” it held.
The Government of the day should not test the patience of the people, and matters concerning indigenous identity and rightful citizenship cannot and will not be compromised under any circumstances, it categorically asserted.
To this end, the DNSU demanded the “immediate cancellation of the fraudulently obtained Non-Naga Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate” and the initiation of legal and administrative action against the concerned individual and any officials involved in facilitating the fraudulent certification.
It also called for a formal written response from the State Government without further delay.
The DNSU also reaffirmed that continued silence and inaction will compel the union to initiate its next democratic course of action in the interest of the indigenous people of Nagaland.
