DNSU flays government’s careless attitude

Starts poster campaign

Dimapur, November 27 (MExN): The Diphupar Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) today said that the “callous attitude” of the State government and the concerned department towards “the plight of the students is beyond any measure of human tolerability or patience.”

Despite repeated appeals, the State government has paid no heed to the demands of the students reflecting its indifferent attitude towards the fraternity, the DNSU asserted in a press note issued by its President Kumlamo Patton and General Secretary Pitovi Achumi.

The office of the DNSU has resolved to “confront the injustice until every student receives his/her scholarship that is due to them,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Union pointed out that while the amount of admission and monthly fees paid by the students keep rising on annual basis, the amount of scholarship paid to them have remained stagnant for the past decade.

This defies “any logical explanation”, it said, adding that the present rate does not cover even one-third of the students’ annual expenditure.

In this regard, the DNSU stated that the decision to release the scholarship on installment basis by the state government “is a mockery to the state’s education system and reflects the seriousness of the Government towards the students.”

It further alleged that the scholarship scandals is just one among many instances of “broad day-light robbery wherein, the students do not receive the support and facilities that are meant for them.”

In this context, DNSU demanded immediate release of the “remaining amount of scholarship” and said it has started a poster campaign as part of its 1st phase of agitation.

The Union President Kumlamo Patton informed that the poster campaign was started on November 26 by hanging banner on several locations between Dimapur Airport and Chümoukedima.

It will continue and if possible the Union will even carry out the campaign further up, he said.

“The office will not hesitate to carry out further course of action if the government fails to fulfill its demand within a stipulated time,” the DNSU release also asserted.

It also appealed to all the right thinking individuals and organisations to “support the student fraternity in this fight for justice.”
