DNSU refute DGP’s response

Dimapur, November 16 (MExN): The clarification of the Director General of Police over allegations of backdoor recruitment in the police department is challenged by the Dimapur Naga Students Union (DNSU). While highlighting a number of points against the DGP’s statement, the students’ body demands that the police chief resign on moral grounds and for misusing his authority and adding “more salt to the wounds maliciously.” A letter addressed to the DGP from the DNSU executive raised a number of queries which the DGP is demanded to make clarification. The DNSU said all are aware of “forceful backing” of politicians, overruling norms.

The DNSU set these for the DGP to clarify: The advertisement for the 14th IRB recruitment was published October 21, 2007 where the last date of submission of forms was mentioned as November 5th. “For what four member-committee was ordered to conduct test interview on October 25, 2007 at 4th NAP parade ground?” the DNSU queried.

The DNSU also wondered what the DGP meant when he stated “PHQ receives several applications even though no post is advertised; to ensure that unfit persons are not required, a test was recently conducted at 4th NAP Thizama to weed out such unfit applications, if any.

The students wondered why the PHQ is trying to fool the public. “What exactly DGP mean to say that 25th October Thizama so-called test is for IRB? Does he mean to say it is nothing to do with IRB or justifying that the conduct is for IRB?”

The DNSU also queried of the DGP whether or not the IRB have an Unarmed Branch Sub-Inspector or Assistant Sub-inspector (ABSI) rank. “Or IRB is just namesake that all the facilities supposed to be enjoyed by the IRB personnel are siphoned off by the high-ranking officials? Is it not clandestine arrangement?” The DNSU challenged. Further, the DGP was asked to clarify “why only 37 candidates appear” before the committee for physical and medical test on October 25 if it was an open competition (last date November 5, 2007) and “when 600 plus candidates are appeared for just 11 ABSI (posts) and 41 havildars (post) at Chumukedima NAPTC?”. (The DNSU enclosed a list of the name of the candidates, with the letter).

The DGP is also asked to answer for how many posts of UBSI, ABSI and ASI were advertised and out of 37 candidates how many of them compete on which post. It also queried why the committee recommended only 35 candidates out of 37 on the basis that they secured 50% above total marks when four were publicly declared as rejected candidates “for various reasons.” The DNSU also added the query in the letter: “What does the PHQ mean by NAP (IR)? Why special allowances are not given to IR personnel when their status is at par with CRPF?”

Demanding that these points be clarified by the DGPO or resign, the DNSU also urged the Naga Students’ federation to take stern steps against wanton practice of hijacking opportunities due to eligible and educated youths.
