• 82nd annual council of NBCC concludes in Kohima
• Resolve to support govt in policies for welfare of people
• Reaffirm commitment to clean election campaign
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 4 (MExN): The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) on Monday came out in support of women empowerment while stressing on the need to create an opportunity for women to represent and take part in policy making.
This was one among the many resolve made by the NBCC for the year 2019 during the 82nd annual council held from February 1-3 at NBCC Convention Centre, Kohima.
The NBCC maintained that it would continually “recognize and accept the remarkable and distinctive role of women in the church and the society and to give due credit and privileges.”
It also noted that the “age-old culture and tradition of patriarchal practices needed to be done away with” and instead encourage and create an opportunity for women to represent and take part in the policy making, even in the government.
The NBCC has also resolved to cooperate with the Nagaland Government in all their policies for the welfare of the people.
However, any programs or plans that are implemented at the cost of compromising Christian faith and biblical values will not be entertained by the member of the church, it pointed out.
While acknowledging the importance of providing opportunities to recognize our Naga culture to others, the NBCC said the church takes its responsibility to edify the members to embrace the teaching of Jesus and live out biblical culture.
As Nagaland along with the rest of the country prepare for the Lok Sabha election, the NBCC said it stand firm in propagating clean election and reaffirmed its commitment to support and intensify Clean Election Campaign so as to fight against any form of corruption.
Meanwhile, taking a serious note of how the children and youths are becoming more and more desensitized to biblical principles and Christian living, the NBCC has resolved to implement intentional children and youth ministry.
Stating that righteous living is being challenged because of so many evils that is against the biblical teaching, the NBCC felt that in order to lead our children towards righteous living, teaching them biblical values, purity of life and sex education should be instilled in their minds when they are still young.
The NBCC also resolved to intensify the ministry of care and support. Within the NBCC family, there are churches and associations that are in need of financial support and human resources. It therefore resolved to “encourage the stronger and the more privileged associations and churches to provide and shoulder the responsibility for the one in need, living up to our theme ‘Knitted together in Christ.’”
Speakers at the 82nd annual council include Rev. Dr. Hukashe Zhimomi, President, NBCC; Sentisashi, Pastor, Kohima Ao Baptist Church and Jaksil A. Sangma, Director of Women’s Ministry, Garo Baptist Convention.
The annual council was attended by representatives of 20 associations and 4 associate members under NBCC.
