Do you support easing of lockdown rules in Nagaland along with rest of India? Why?

Some of those who voted YES had this to say:

•    Yes, Lockdown with relaxations... Interstate movement should not be open, and border should continue to remain sealed. Shops, malls and Inter-district vehicle movement should open with odd and even numbers in order prevent economy from further destruction... School must remain closed and students should be given online class with better internet connection...no student should be promoted without exam ,but other mode of exams should be provided.

•    Yes. Because I think it's okay for the goverment to start relaxation in bits. Because unlike other states, cases in Nagaland are not within the community or spread by people within the community. These are cases among the members the returnees, who are already isolated and quarantined and tracked.

•    Yes. Many of our citizens live by hand to mouth. We must think about them.

•    100% yes if this virus is going to stay for longer period according to experts how are we going to survive if lockdown continues? There is other sickness/virus which includes hunger that kills human lives other than coronavirus. Thousands of daily wagers are going through untold suffering.

•    People need to earn and eat....Some of us are privilege enough but others are struggling even for a meal. So, a big Yes.

•    Public transportation such as taxis, auto-rickshaws and buses need to be open.

•    No problem for Government servants. But what about private job workers and labourers, they are daily wage earners.

•    Yes. The so called lockdown was sudden and only lead to unprecedented mass migration all over India. About 90% jobs are in private sectors. As migrants have said, hunger and poverty will kill them before the virus.

•    Yes. Because coronavirus is not the only problems to stay alive. But we should have a strict check on returnees by not allowing them to litter around, and we should completely close the entrance from other states especially those Dimapur airport, railway station and buses from other state should be checked.

•    Yes, I support easing of lockdown but not necessarily like the rest of India. With restrictions on certain areas of activities, the lockdown should be relaxed. Public gatherings should be banned. Movement of limited number of passengers in a vehicle should be followed. Schools, colleges should remain close. Even and odd vehicle movement must be continued. Big markets like Hong Kong Market, New Market, Supermarket, etc. should be closed. Restaurants and cafes may be closed. Children below fourteen and old aged people may be restricted of movements. Shopping malls and showrooms may be open with proper sanitising facilities. Private enterprises may be open with proper sanitising facilities. Government departmental offices may be open with limited working hours with limited number of officers in duty every day.

•    Because lockdown does not resolve the issue. Peoples have lost jobs. Mask and social distancing is the only guarantee to infection.

•    Experts indicate we have to live with COVID-19 for a long time. We might as well learn to live by maintaining social distancing and necessary hygiene practices.

•    We have to fight against the pandemic disease by distancing ourselves from effected people, we should not disseminate against them who are being affected.

•    The lockdown has not been able to contain the spread of the virus. Because the lockdown only has create a mad rush in shops, banks and ATM both. Schools, colleges and offices should be shut down, but shutting down all shops including stand alone shops is going to be counter productive. As long as we live, we have eat and drink, but if all kinds of shops are, where does one gets commodities? Do the shops spread the virus or the one who is infected? Infected people should be quarantined and treated properly so that it does not spread to others. Have the decision makers seen the mad rush in shops and long queue in banks and at ATM booths? There's no social distancing at all. This is an imported virus, it came from people who came from other states. So if the government is very concern about the pandemic shouldn't have brought our people working in other state to come to our state if they cannot be well taken care of. The government must come up with proper plan to stop the spread of virus instead of spending more manpower and resources on lockdown. What measures has the government taken to stop the spread of virus other than lockdown? If it continues like this, we are heading for a doom. Proper quarantine and proper treatment of infected persons the only way forward to stop the spread of the virus. The government should think how best social distancing can be maintained. Our front line workers were not affected because they maintained social distancing while performing their duties. This clearly demonstrates that social distancing and not lockdown is effective in containing the spread of the virus.

Some of those who voted NO had this to say:

•    With cases rising at an alarming rate and present healthcare facilities, a big No.

•    Definitely No. While it is inconvenient to live by with all normalcy hindered, it's doable and done for the greater good and outcome so while the citizens are slowly getting used to the new norms and with the no. Of cases rising and spreading like wildfire, why relax rules now?

•    No not right now, with the increase in no of positive cases and the stranded no of people returning home. Should be a big No according to me.

•    For me No. Positive cases are just starting out and the pandemic has to peak in Nagaland.

•    No. Due to poor health care facilities and public ignorance, it should go on like with the present restrictions.

•    No Nagaland need more strict lockdown norms since it looks like a normal day in the current lockdown norms and Chruches, associations who are still not involved should come out and help the daily wage earners, the low income lines for a certain that period of time.

•    No. Do not follow the rest of India because lately India have surpassed Spain and has become the 5th worst hit COVID-19 country in the world. This is not a game, we better not try our luck.

•    No... Restrictions should go for few more months... We are at the peak of the COVID-19.

•    All the efforts will go in vain if we relax lockdown at this moment as the case is rising rapidly.

•    Still our States are going to receive more returnee from other Red Zone Area.

•    No, because for Nagaland, it's going to be reversed. We were extra careful even by involving NGOs when there was no positive case. Now those positive cases are increasing rapidly, more relaxations to come, with or without government guidelines, we really need to take extra precautions in everything that we do.

•    We know, by God's Grace, we are saved. Faith is very important but how about our Actions? We have enough evidence of how this virus had spread during church services in other countries. Let's learn from others' mistakes. While earnestly continuing with our prayers to God, let's act responsibly.

•    We are not capable to handle the outbreak no enough health facilities.

•    The citizens of Nagaland don’t even have a decent hospital. If they get infected, the only thing they can do is pray and try to treat themselves. Some stores like Pharmacy, Grocery stores, vegetable vendors can open with strict guidelines. Restaurants can open only for pickup or deliveries.

•    COVID-19 has just started in Nagaland with the influx of returnees from outside. More than likely the positive cases will soar up beyond the state infrastructure to handle the situation. High chances of community transmission might occur due to shortage of enough testing facilities and quarantine centres. So by relaxing the lockdown we are only plunging into a doomsday.

•    Lockdown policy is the best solution for prevention. This dreaded virus is so easy to transmit to human who are careless, unhygienic and r unaware of proper safety rules that should b maintain in our daily activities.

•    Lockdown should not be eased in Nagaland as of now with the increasing positive patients and the public non compliance with the government regarding social distancing etc.

•    Our state has just started receiving positive cases, it's in stage 1. We should be following, more strictly the lockdowns and precautionary measures that we were following past few months.

•    Government is corrupted itself so they themselves should not set rules.

•    Number of infected with COVID-19 is increasing, and many from different parts of the country are set to return to the state.

•    Our fight against COVID-19 has just begun, as we bring back our stranded people and with the rising positive case for the past week.

•    Community spread can only be minimised this way.

•    No I don't support easing of lockdown in our state... There are lots of issues going on because of this lock down and we understand that but right now, what matters most is the Life of each and every individual. Everyone is well aware that Nagaland does not have enough facilities and resources. Easing up the lockdown will create more disaster. I just hope a wise decision is being made on this matter, after all we can restore back the economy but we can never bring back a Life man's life.

Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:

•    The government has made too many rules that now it cannot release the returnees who are overstaying only because they have not been tested. We have created a wrong notion that returnees are patients.

•    Depends upon the way people are quarantined and monitored. The virus is not present in the open as of now, it is only in quarantine centres., if we can keep it that way, it is only logical to ease the lockdown.

•    Schools and institutions should continue to remain closed. There has to be some restriction with regard to the movement of people as it seems to be quite casual.

•    Yes and No. The first question remains as to which are to be relaxed or which will be under lock! Gatherings of any kind, schools, colleges or institutes, religious places, borders, etc, should remain sealed lest we encounter super spreaders like that of 'Patient-31' in South Korea. On the other hand, relaxation should continue for shops and essential commodities which otherwise lead to panic buying soon as markets are opened again. Use of facial masks and social distancing are vital points too but as of spitting in public, the government should campaign on the hazards of spitting rather than banning products with the excuse that consumers spit after using them. That, to me, is short-sighted conclusion not because of banning a food item for some but because till date, many continue to spit recklessly even without using tobacco products. Continue to campaign against spitting, not tobacco!

•    Everyone knows that prevention is better than cure. So it’s simple. We better not Play with this pandemic especially Nagaland. Let’s be more Christian at this hour and help those families who need our support. We don’t have any other options for now.

•    I strongly support a regulated and efficiently managed lockdown to be continued. Not a draconian but people involved and inspired one.
