DIMAPUR, MAY 24 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has contradicted the statement made by the AICC secretary in-charge of Nagaland, Dr Jaykumar to The Morung Express on May 23 that AICC has not given NPCC any clearance to support the NPF party so far.
A rejoinder from the NPCC president, K Therie stated that the AICC secretary is not involved in the process of consultation with the AICC and is “ignorant of Lok Sabha bye-election process in the state.”
“Congress president and general secretary are aware of development. His obsession (AICC secretary) to hog the limelight has always jeopardized the position of the NPCC on various issues,” the NPCC president on Thursday said.
The NPCC went on to state that it does “not need anybody’s permission to fight communalism since the core ideology of Indian National Congress is to protect secularism and liberal democracy.” The recent political developments in the state are cause of concern with BJP making inroads on the pretext of development, it added.
It also maintained that the NPCC appealed the NPF for a consensus candidate to uphold the principles of secularism. Therefore, NPCC has decided in the best interest of Nagaland to support NPF and defeat the communal forces of NDPP-BJP, NPCC further stated.
