Don’t single out IGP, Police tells NSCN (K)

DIMAPUR, DEC 14 (MExN): Noting with regret the contents of the NSCN (K) response to the M.V. Chakhesangs’ award of Rs 1 Lakh, that appeared in some newspapers, the police department, through a press release issued by the Additional Director General (OPS), N Aonochet Ao, IPS, has clarified that the Inspector General of Police (INT) is the designated Public Relations Officer of the Nagaland Police department, and is therefore the official procedural norm and age- old practice to release all official announcements, or for that matter any press releases and any form of print communication to be signed by the IGP (INT) and whosoever incumbent be at the time of giving out press releases. Therefore, to blame or single out M V Chakhesang for the Nagaland Police Department’s press communiqué announcing the reward /offer to anyone giving information leading to the arrest of those responsible in the assassination of late. Hesso Mao, the then DGP, Nagaland, is totally erroneous, unjust and unfair, the release said.

It further stated that the concerned officer, as the present incumbent as IGP (INT) was acting on his official capacity as the PRO / spokesman of the department. The officer has no personal interest or ill motive nor any personal enmity or grudge with any individual, be that organization or that organization itself, the release stated.

“To say that M.V. Chakhesang, solely, will be held responsible and accountable for any unwanted incident in regard to the case in the near future amply betrays lack of understanding and tantamount to unfairly singling out a particular officer, which is most unbecoming and utterly regrettable”, it stated.

“It is requested that the NSCN (K) may, as a responsible organization, appreciate the formalities involved in Government Departments’ functioning and desist from isolating, or for that matter of fact, individualizing a particular officer merely on the count that his, official assignment and the call of duty obligates him to speak out or be the spokesman of his department.”
