Door-to-door campaign on source segregation of waste

Itanagar, March 19 (MExN): Volunteers from the Abralow Memorial Multipurpose Society (AMMS) and Youth Mission for Clean River (YMCR) conducted a daylong door-to-door campaign on "Source Segregation of Waste" among the local business community and residents of Kime Pakka colony, Abotanai colony, and Chandranagar on March 18, in an effort to increase awareness about efficient waste disposal.

Along with Miss Arunachal Nabam Yate, the volunteers from the Rajiv Gandhi University's Social Work Department visited a sizable number of homes and businesses throughout the day-long campaign, according to a press release on Sunday.

With the aid of information booklets, they disseminated knowledge and tactics for effective trash management. Stickers displaying correct trash segregation were also distributed as part of the campaign, it said.

The drive was a part of ‘Mission Clean Yagamso’, which is an effort by the NGOs to rejuvenate the Yagamso river with the support of the Itanagar Smart City Corporation Limited.

“Waste management and disposal of waste is a serious issue that we are facing nowadays. If we are not aware of proper waste management, it leads to serious issues like air pollution, water pollution, and soil pollution. By doing small practices in our daily life we can make a huge difference. For that, we all have to practice the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” in our daily life,” Mission Clean Yagamso coordinator Prem Taba said, according to the release issued by the Youth Mission for Clean River- Arunachal Pradesh (YMCR-AP).

Educating the public on source segregation is the way forward in waste management, he added.

Additionally, he informed that the NGOs would be hosting a river cleaning campaign to commemorate World Forest Day on March 21 and a poster-making competition for school students in partnership with the Arunachal Pradesh Science Centre to celebrate World Water Day on March 22.He urged all like-minded to participate in the upcoming events.
