Kohima, AUGUST 13 (MExN): The Department of Power, Nagaland (DoPN) will be taking special measures to improve revenue collection in Dimapur district. In that direction, a team headed by Additional Secretary, Power, will be visiting Dimapur fortnightly “to study ways and means of controlling power theft and improve revenue collection” in the district.
This was informed in a press release issued by KD Vizo, Principal Secretary, DoPN, through the Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR).
The team will also monitor attendance of both office and field staff in Dimapur and Chümoukedima Electrical Divisions, besides encouraging the citizenry to accept pre-paid energy metering system, adopting energy saving methods and educating “consumers on how to pay for what they consume.”
It stated that rampant power theft in the district is adversely affecting the state’s overall revenue collection, given that 50 percent of the electricity allocated to Nagaland is consumed by Dimapur. As a result, revenue collection has been falling short of the projected target, which calls for “an urgent need to control the situation,” it said. While stating that controlling power theft and adopting proper energy saving methods would do away with overloading or load shedding, it appealed the consumers to extend co-operation.
