
Raj Prohlad Neog and Reshma Singh finish in top positions

Reshma Singh (29 years) from Kohima and Raj Prohlad Neog (19 years) from Jorhat, Assam took the top positions in the women’s and men’s category of the MTB Cyclothon 2021 organised by Dorians Society in Dimapur on October 23.
Singh completed the 25km course in 1:05.55 hours and Neog completed the men’s 57km course in 2:08.41 hours.
Vikhotuonuo (22 years) - 1:07.30 hours and Vungthunglo Ovung (21 years) - 1:15.45 hours finished second and third, respectively, in the women’s category. Kevithozo Casavi (21 years) – 2:12.35 hours and MK Thalaiva (35 years) – 2:12.46 hours finished second and third, respectively, in the men’s.
The ‘open’ event saw 20 competitors in total.
The race was flagged off from the DC office traffic point at 6:00am and culminated at the State Stadium, also known as Multi Disciplinary Sports Complex, the construction of which is incomplete.
The route covered DC office Police Point - City Tower Junction - Holy Cross Junction - Bata Chariali - Town Hall Police Point - Kuda Village - Lungwiram Junction - Toulazouma - Zoological Park – Singrijan – New Chümoukedima Village – Sukhovi Gate – Vidima – Kiyeto – Dhansiripar Junction - OTS - Singrijan - Zoological Park – Thahekhu Junction - Thahekhu Village - Signal Basti - Dhobi Nala - Midland - State Stadium.
The competition carried a total cash purse of Rs 80,000. The race was one of several events lined up in the lead up to the Society’s 25th founding anniversary in 2022.
Men’s champion Neog described the race as well organised. He said, “The race was very well organised and the organizers were very cooperative. And the route was full of fun and the scenario was very good. I enjoyed it a lot and I am very happy that I came first. I hope to participate in upcoming events.”
Second-placed Casavi of Gear Trails said the race was the longest route he has so far competed in. “This is one of the longest race I have participated. This was quite an experience. It was challenging and at the same time it was fun as well. And I would like to thank the Dorians Society for organizing such an event. I would also like to thank my team, Gear trails for always supporting me,” he said.
Dorians Society is a not-for-profit organization with one of its visions being the promotion of sports, besides social activism. As per the Society, “One of our visions is to encourage sports activities in our state. We are committed to the development and empowerment of future leaders/athletes by using sports as a tool to improve health and fitness, excel in academia, develop life skills and values, and to become well-rounded, productive citizens in society. The most important part we want to provide for our youth is to enjoy sports activities. We organize events which will add value in the lives of the people in general.”
